Our Aircraft Tugs Offer Everything You Need
When it comes to construction, power train, control, loading systems and batteries, one thing becomes clear concerning all our aircraft tugs: they all combine rugged durability with user-friendly simplicity.
Construction
All models are constructed with a common frame design which varies, slightly, with the nose-wheel loading systems to accommodate individual needs. Steel frames are mig-welded and heavy-gauge.
Power Train
The power for our aircraft tugs comes from an industrial Tecumseh 10 hp, 4-cycle, electric start, recoil backup engine with a 2-year factory warranty. The tugs incorporate a hydrostatic trans-axle which is an engine driven hydraulic pump with operator-controlled volume output. This drives a fixed displacement hydraulic motor which drives gearing to a differential and to chain-driven drive wheels.
This type of power transmission has gained industry-wide acceptance over the more archaic manual-shift-type transmission. As a result, you will enjoy no shifting of gears and no jerky clutching systems that can wear out, prematurely. Whether you are slowly inching your aircraft or moving quickly, the smooth, infinitely variable output speed will be hard to miss. All drive tires are 16” x 6” – 6-ply on 8” drive wheels which easily handle nose-wheel weight up to 2,000 pounds.
Control
The ‘twist bar control’ for all our aircraft tugs means there is no need to remove one hand for trans control during critical maneuvering in tight spaces. Both hands remain on the twist bar to maintain full control of travel speed, reversing, braking and steering via the 8” rear caster. Our new hydro-stats feature a spring-back “return to brake/neutral” which ensures not only neutral starts but completely prevents creep when a running tug is temporarily unattended.
Loading Systems
To provide optimal traction pressure, the strap load or J-hook system transfers the aircraft nose-wheel weight onto the airtug drive wheels. This convenience means not having to manually hold down on the handle to achieve the required traction. Regardless of any traction that may be compromised due to inclement weather or slick hanger floors, both systems get the nose-wheel loaded regardless of nose-wheel weight or having to position chocks behind the mains.
Batteries
All tugs are shipped with wet battery at not extra charge; and air-and sea-container shipments contain a sealed battery. Also, aircraft tugs are shipped completely assembled except for the handle and caster, and are crated for truck shipment.
The crate dimensions are: 75”x36”x25”.
It is important to know that there is a $100 surcharge for ISPM-15 compliant crating material. A sealed battery is required for shipments outside of the US.
