If the time has come to consider purchasing an airplane tug for you aircraft, there are several points to consider that will ensure you end up with the proper equipment to do the job.
Airtug LLC manufacturers a broad line of ground support equipment covering most light aircraft as well as many larger aircraft up to 16,000 lbs. At a minimum – when you place an order with Airtug, it is helpful to include the make and model of your aircraft. The weight of the aircraft is important and even the nose wheel weight is considered. An airplane tug at a minimum is limited by each of these weights. When you get ready to move your aircraft, you want a tug that can handle the nose wheel weight from a structural standpoint and additionally the ability to move the airplane easily and safely. If you don’t already know your aircraft weights for these areas, you will find it in the published material from the aircraft manufacturer. It is not critical to have exact weights but it’s helpful to be close.
There are several dimensions (measured in inches) that are very important to know when specifying an airplane tug. If you have a nose wheel aircraft the following dimensions are important; the size and width of the nose wheel, the dimension from the center of the nose wheel to the end of the airplane spinner, the clearance from the lowest point of the nose wheel fairing to the pavement (for aircraft with a nose wheel fairing) and the dimension from the underside of the lowest point of the front of the aircraft to the pavement. These dimensions are necessary to confirm the tug clearance.
If your airplane is a tail wheel aircraft, similar dimensions are necessary as well from the rear of the aircraft. What is the size of the tail wheel? What is the dimension from the center of the tail wheel to the rear most section of the aircraft? What is the dimension from the underside of the horizontal stabilizer to the pavement? In addition to others, Airtug LLC builds an airplane tug specifically for many tail wheel aircraft known as the Tail Dragger Dragger®.
An airplane tug from many of the manufacturers will not fit all aircraft. At Airtug, we strive to confirm airplane compatibility to minimize the inconvenience to the customer in the event of an exchange. This will aid the customer in getting immediate use of the equipment when it arrives.
Airtug builds high quality aircraft ground support tugs to move your prized possession in and out of the hangar gently and without the need of additional help. When you receive your new airplane tug, it is almost completely assembled and only requires a few basic tools to be operational. Your own personal tug is the perfect compliment to your hangar not to mention your airplane of course.
We will work hard to ensure we supply aircraft owners with the best tug to fit their budget as well as their aircraft. Our ground support equipment is a walk behind configuration and rated for aircraft weighing up to 16,000 lbs.
